Review of Omega Speedmaster Mark II
Available in a classic Speedmaster black dial, a Rio 2016 limited edition, and the grey and orange racing dial featured in this review, This Speedmaster "Mark II" features a matt black dial protected by a scratch-resistant sapphire crystal. There is a small seconds sub-dial at 9 o'clock, a 12-hour recorder at 6 o'clock and a 30-minute recorder at 3 o'clock, as well as a central hour, minute and chronograph seconds hands. The transparent tachymeter scale on the sapphire crystal is illuminated from beneath by an aluminium ring filled with Super-LumiNova. At the heart of this chronograph is the exclusive OMEGA Co-Axial calibre 3330.A quick search on Omega's Vintage Watches Database shows that the Speedmaster Mark II reference ST 145.014 was released in 1969 and came in a matte black dial or a "luminous grey with burgundy/orange scale." Compared to the original, the new Mark II (ref 327.10.43.50.06.001) is a bit bigger, with its visually-identical steel tonneau case now measuring 42.4 mm wide and 46.2 from hooded lug to hooded lug.
The dial is nicely lumed, and the new Omega Speedmaster Mark II goes a step beyond most Speedmasters by offering a luminous tachymetre scale. The tachymetre scale is a crucial element within the Speedmaster design and the Mark II approaches that design from an entirely new angle. The tachymetre scale is integrated around the edge of the anti-reflective sapphire crystal, thus allowing the numbers of the scale to be transparent. Beneath the crystal lies a bright orange metal ring, mostly obscured from view, that holds a luminous application directly below the transparent tachymetre scale.
Omega Speedmaster Mark II Replica Watch
The great part about this Replica Omega Mark II right here is that the dial, the case, the bracelet and pretty much everything you see on the outside match the original 1 on 1. It’s a really good clone from this point of view and a cool new watch but an older vintage model if you think of it. It’s been around since the 1969 now but even so this baby looks spot on and very up to date. The movement is Japanese Quartz (battery run) that makes the small seconds hand at 6 o’clock tick. The big seconds hand on the other hand has a more sweeping motion so it’s a good decoy for the more skeptic. It’s not an expensive piece though and because it has the looks I think that passing it for an original will not be that hard.
It’s a fun and solid piece to wear with a different all time design in my opinion. Easy to accessorize for most occasions or as an everyday piece so nothing to worry about here either.
